HAIDA GWAII, CANADA

Haida Gwaii Island off Canada’s West coast. Camped out in a rental minivan for a 10-day trip in November. Drove down logging roads, confronted bears, witnessed orcas break the surface of the gray ocean, and hiked close to a dozen miles at times, all in search of icy waves peeling in front of the silent evergreen forests. Our 2-person “shits and giggles” type trip turned into two weeks as the ferry back to the airport was shut down during an especially violent storm.
